Methodology
How these numbers are made
This is an aggregation, not a republication. We record the numeric assessments published by the sources below, convert them to one unit basis, and report a median rather than adopting any single house's number.
1. What we take from a source
Only the price numbers and a link to the article they came from. We do not copy article text into our database, our pages or our feed. The commentary published here is written from the numbers we parsed. Publishers that forbid republication are not being republished.
2. Unit basis
Chinese concentrate prices are quoted per standard tonne on a 65% WO3 basis. CNY 333,000 per standard tonne is therefore CNY 5,123 per mtu, where one mtu (metric ton unit) is 10 kg of contained WO3. We publish the mtu figure because export contracts settle on it and it compares across grades. APT and ferrotungsten stay per tonne; powders per kilogram.
3. Consensus versus contract
The consensus is the median of midpoints across spot sources. Benchmark assessments are included because they are published as tradeable references. Producer long-term contracts and association guidance appear in a separate block and never enter the median: they are set periodically, they lag the spot market, and folding them in would silently distort the series.
4. Currency
USD figures divide the renminbi price by the USD/CNY reference rate for that day; the monthly page uses that month's average. It is a mid-market reference, not a bank settlement rate, and it will differ from what you actually pay by the usual spread.
5. Timing
The daily note we capture is published by China Tungsten Online during the morning, China time. The page carries no machine-readable timestamp, so the capture job polls across the publication window and stops as soon as the new session appears. The first moment we see a session is stored with the snapshot. A captured session is never silently overwritten; later corrections are additive.
6. What this is not
These are not offers. They are indicative references compiled from public material. Real transactions differ by grade, lot size, payment terms, delivery and duty status. Do not use a single number here as the basis of a purchase contract.
